Peacock chairs have become one of the most iconic decor items in home decor, especially bohemia and island style interiors. Antique shoppers and DIY'ers are fanatics for the peacock chair, making pilgramiges to Palm Springs and other hot spots. And here we are living in the birth country of this chair! This iconic ratan chair originated right here in our islands. Recently a friend told me she remembers as a child these chairs were sold in the public market for $10 USD. The peacock chair now retails around $500 USD in The U.S. They still aren't super cheap here but I am hoping to score my own on a budget one day.
Pinoys have continued to create bueatiful design. I am especially a sucker for their baskets, textiles and ratan. Manila FAME is a trade show that showcases Filipino design. I particularly loved the Peacock Redux Exhibit wherein nine local artists reinvented their version of the peacock chair.
Below are the participating designers and companies who were part of this years Peacock Chair Redux:
Leo Sano for Locsin International
Mark Gerby Rivera for Country Accents, Inc
Jim Torres for Industria Home Vico Design and Manufacturing, Corporation
Tony Gonzales for A Greeting Card Co.
Budji Layug for Kenneth Cobonpue (This guy is world famous and most popular among celebrities in The U.S.)
Jinggoy Buensuceso for Prizmic and Brill et Compagnie, Inc.
Val Padilla for Luzon Rattan Industries
Leeroy New for MCCA Industrial Corporation (He is also world famous designer designing costumes for Lady Gaga. His installation in Paoay was piqued my interest and got me up there.)
